accidentally forgot to post for a few weeks
I accidentally forgot to post for a few weeks, and when I thought about posting again, I didn't know what to say. So every day for the past week or so, I've thought about what I could post about that would be more cohesive/centered around a topic, rather than a random assortment of thoughts. I couldn't think of One Thing, and now I am here, ready to talk about some things I did during the month of July.
- I finished my Tamagotchi scarf!
I posted about it here a couple of months ago. I finished it on July 7th. I'd like to get some nice photos taken of the finished piece to share here, but I haven't gotten around to that yet. Still, I'm so happy to have learned a new skill and made a beautiful scarf!
- I tried a new restaurant with friends.
There's an unofficial Discord server for my city, and sometimes people will create events that are open to anyone - typically things like organizing a group to see a movie, attend a concert, or go out for a meal together. The event I went to was a group dinner at an Asian fusion restaurant pretty close by my house. My boyfriend and I attended together, and we saw both familiar faces from previous events as well as some new faces. I like events like this a lot - it's an easy way to make new friends and try new places and things.
- I've been working my way through a 940-page Warhammer 40,000 book.
I wanted to get into a new-to-me sci-fi series, and I saw a lot of recommendations on Reddit for fandom newcomers to check out the Eisenhorn Omnibus by Dan Abnett as a starting place. So far, I've read the first three short stories and first two books (Xenos and Malleus), and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected! The writing style is easy to understand, even with all of the in-universe terms I'd never seen before, and the actual story progression is snappy and moves along quickly. I think I'm interested enough to want to check out some more Warhammer 40,000 books after I complete this omnibus, and I've got some webpages bookmarked for potential books to purchase next.
- I'm finally disengaging from Amazon's Kindle services.
I unsubscribed from Kindle Unlimited, which was honestly long overdue because I haven't been reading many e-books lately (I've got a stack of physical books waiting to be read, though). I haven't wiped my Kindle itself yet, but I'm currently weighing the pros and cons between a Kobo or a Boox e-reader. Kobo has apparently paired with Storygraph to have in-device synchronization/updating, so that's pretty cool, but I also know Kobo was owned by Rakuten, which is (from my understanding) like Asia's Amazon. I'll need to look more into it.
Anyway! I haven't been away from Bear blog for any bad or complicated reasons - I just forgot to post, and I got a little uncertain about how to come back. I think I just overthink things.
